May 21, 2020

Dear YES Camp Parents & Interested Parties,

This is a follow-up to our March email, letting you know that the Community Development Corporation of Northern New Jersey (CDC|NNJ) Board has made the decision to cancel the YES Camp in 2020.

We pondered every possible option, knowing the value of the YES Camp in the community, but decided to err on the side of caution, health and safety for both our students and staff. As you know, the nation and the world are in the middle of a global pandemic that is deadly and presents new challenges and issues every day. Now we have learned that the virus is impacting children in strange ways. There are so many unknowns and our children are just too precious to place at risk.

We want to take this time to:
• Understand the local and national regulations with regards to gathering and social distancing • Ensure that we can execute and abide by those regulations
• Ensure that the proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is available when we get together in 2021
• Pray that a vaccine is tested and available for all by June of 2021
Our plan is to open the YES Camp next year, being wiser, more informed and equipped to provide the best camp experience for your child in the state of NJ.

Applications will be available the first week of January 2021. We will continue to be in prayer for our children and you as well as we encourage you to adhere to social distancing guidelines in the coming months. HEALTH & SAFETY FIRST!

Sincerely,

CDC|NNJ Board:
Sandra Gilyard, Chairperson | Charlee Taylor-Hines, Vice Chairperson | Ruth Carter, Secretary | Ernestine Cash, Treasurer | Norman Burroughs | James Howard | Rev. David Hollowell | Allen Washington
